A '92 reissue of an excellent mid-'70s session by pianist Walter Norris, who's made few records, all of which are worth having. He's a slashing, more unorthodox player with both free and hard bop ties. His patterns, solos, and phrases aren't among the easiest to follow, but bassists George Mraz and Aladar Page manage to find a comfort zone after some early problems.

Walter Norris has been performing extraordinary music for more than forty years--with Chet Baker, Ornette Coleman, as the house pianist at the Playboy Mansion, with Thad and Mel, in duos with George Mraz, with Joe Henderson, as a solo artist. Lyrical, gut-busting, classical, progressive. It never fails to amaze how someone of such amazing gifts can remain largely unknown and so under-appreciated. "Drifting" is his breakout Enja album with George Mraz on bass. You don't miss the drums. His take on "Spring Can Really Hang You Up the Most" is so emotional, with great touch and such musical choices. "Rose Waltz" equals it with great lyricism. The title tack of "Drifting" is virtuosic to the nth degree. Turn on to Walter Norris--you won't regret it.

當然，乍看滿園綠，教封面黨如何不動心。。。

第一次是短途, 落機後也沒刻意去找，反正一直在飛

不要企圖尋找或品評時代與戰爭的意義
影片中的兩個日本平民女主角，
聽見日軍攻陷南京時，歡欣雀躍，
因為她們判斷「戰爭快結束了、物價就會回落了」
就是那麼簡單！

陶老傑講得好：

因為編導的人文情懷，超越了太平洋戰爭。

Lyle Mays has made his own albums infrequently, usually preferring to serve as the keyboard player in the Pat Metheny Group. This is only his fourth album in 15 years, and it is his first on which he is the sole player. He had a solo spot on the 1997-1998 Metheny Group world tour, and it when it ended Metheny persuaded him to go into a studio in August 1998 and record his improvisations on acoustic piano. This he did with very little in the way of prior composition, his efforts not only recorded but also entered into a MIDI computer. With that digital record of his performances, he proceeded to write orchestrations that followed the soloing, played on synthesizers, thus, the title reference to "expanded piano." In practice, this triumph of technology comes off largely as an ambient piano recording liable to remind listeners of both George Winston and Keith Jarrett. The added effects are usually unobtrusive or at most atmospheric, and Mays' playing is attractive without being showy, typical for him. The music is jazz in the sense that it is improvised and classical in the sense that it is, in effect, composed after the fact. But most ears will place it as new age.

看到過關於森本レオさん的兩則記事，印象深刻。

記事一：
某剛出道年輕女演員說請森本レオさん教她演技
約了去他家，結果好像被吃了豆腐云云。。。

記事二：
其實是森本レオさん本人寫的專欄
一手養大他的母親病危臥床不起
他趕回老家見母親最後一面
不擅言辭的他想不出該如何與母親道別
該講些什麼話？該做些什麼？
於是，他鑽進母親的被窩，
和母親躺在一起，好似回到了幼時
就這樣，他用他的方式和母親渡過了最後的時光。。。

時隔多年，這個畫面一直在我心中縈繞不去
仍記得當時一邊讀著一邊眼淚不停滴在雜誌上

記下來，只怕某天會忘記。

Successful musicians play "the truth." If you want to hear some truth there are certain artists you can seek out. Thelonious Monk couldn't play anything but the truth, right from the beginning. Pianist Jessica Williams came upon the truth—a purer form of it, at least—after experiencing "the fix of Illness" that she has discussed on her website and in interviews. Her first "fix" came about via her struggle with hypothyroidism, and resulted in a string of gorgeous recordings on Origin Records: Songs for a New Century (2008), Art of the Piano (2009), Touch (2010), and Songs of Earth (2011).

Williams' second fix came about with the deterioration of the lumbar region of her spine and the surgery to ameliorate the problem—again, well-documented on her website. The malady and the subsequent surgery sidelined her. With Love is her first post-surgery release. It is all ballads—mostly show tunes, familiar and encoded in the jazz canon: "For All We Know," "My Foolish Heart, " "I Fall In Love too Easily, " Gershwin's "Summertime."

Williams, in the past, has been capable of impressive pyrotechnics, displayed up front on her marvelous Tatum's Ultimatum (Red & Blue Records, 2008) set, a tribute to the exuberant Art Tatum. And she's also capable of deep spiritual and musical depth as she is on her previous Origin Records outings. This time out that flash, and her enormous technique, take a big back seat. The music on With Love is about simplicity, melodic purity and the emotions—mostly love—contained in the lyrics to these enduring movie/show and standards.

This straight ahead approach, this marinating in the melody without artifice, without flash or a hint of pretention, reveals the human side of the lyrical content of these songs—the truth of these songs. And Williams offers up one of her own compositions, "Paradise of Love," that fits in with the familiar, a lovely, human, truthful tune.

都柏林是一個充斥了音樂的城市
著名的U2、Westlife, 都來自都柏林。。。很可能來自街頭
即便是街頭樂隊，或酒吧駐唱的樂手，
水準都令人驚艷，足以令一眾香港所謂歌手汗顏

星期日在都柏林聖三一學院附近街頭偶遇一隊Keywest
他們其實已經開過演唱會灌錄過黑膠唱片
但依然堅持一年四季在街頭演唱
駐足聆聽了兩曲，最後，買下他們兩張自製CD
總比扔錢進他們的琴盒裡好。。。

當天我在都柏林街頭聽到的正是這曲‘Feels So Cruel’
它打動了我
